Money Saving Hints

These are short notes contributed by various residents that may help you save money.

Winter Time and Outdoor Hoses
Be sure your outside water hoses are disconnected from the faucet.
Cold weather will freeze the water and possibly damage the faucet,
causing major inside water problems in the spring.

Now Is a Good Time…

In the past few years there have been incidents in Glenbrook Single Family and Town Home areas of severely clogged sewer lines. In a majority of cases, the clogs have occurred some distance from the residence, and are caused by tree roots invading the sewer lines. If the damage occurs on the private personal line, the homeowner pays the bill for excavation and repair (usually $1000 - $1500, unless it goes under a driveway, which could add to the repair cost). If the damage occurs under the street, GHA (your dues money) pays the bill for excavation, repair and street repair. If the damage occurs on one of the 8 inch feeder lines that travel under the street, the City of Omaha has offered to cover damages.
The fact is that such inconvenience and expense is avoidable! Next time you’re in Lowe’s or Home Depot or Ace Hardware, ask for a container of copper sulfate for use in destroying tree roots in sewer lines. Follow the directions, which typically call for pouring portions of the product down the drain of your lowest toilet on several occasions until the product is gone. That’s it. Ben Franklin would love to expound on how we can save $1000s by spending about $15.00. -- Neal Hoesing
